Rita Keegan’s ‘Hand Series’ Goes on Permanent Display at Goldsmiths

In April 2021, one of Rita Keegan’s artworks titled The Hands Series went of permanent display at Goldsmiths, University of London. Rita Keegan’s The Hand Series is the third artwork from the Women’s Art Library collection to be installed in a public area at Goldsmiths, University of London, other works include Rosy Martin and Jo Spence that have been installed in the Professor Stuart Hall Building. The artwork dates from the 1980s and is an excellent example of “CopyArt”, produced whilst part of the CopyArt Collective that Rita cofounded in 1984 as an open resource centre for artist and activists supporting social justice campaigns.

The artwork was included in the 2015 archival exhibition Show and Tell at the Women’s Art Library, curated by artist and archival research group X Marks The Spot as part of the┬álaunch of their publication Human Endeavour: a creative finding aid for the Women of Colour Index.
